Got kicked out of the animation lab 2 hours earlier than the closing time so I didn’t get things exported and put together…..all I had to do was adjust the stupid backgrounds so they made sence then export it, throw into premier and put together as one big thing! But no the lab that I thought would be open until 2 closed at midnight and I have no way of working on this outside of the lab. I hate life! (I promis the thing is done though.)

So if Harmony ever feels like starting up I can get things done…

Thought the scenes themselves are done with a few timing issues that I ran out fo time to fix…

I cut out the last scene since the cliff turned out to be a huge hassle to color but it still ends at a spot that works.

so most of the animation is drawn out and I am working on scanning it today.

I worked on the cliff but it’s not going as nicely as planned. I’ll post what i’ve done but i still need to get it finished. Most of this week went to drawing out the animation itself so this got a bit neglected.

I will show you the animation when it has been scanned and adjusted since i know it’s going to look a little rought when I first scan it.

The final scene was left at home so it won’t be showing today but it’s all but finished so i’m not to worried about that part.

So I have things done for the animation and some more of the BKs almost finished but not quit done. The backgrounds will be done by the end of class today. With the exception of maybe one. The animation part I would scan and show you but it is still in the blue line photo safe pencil so the scanners won’t actually read it. So I will show you today in class instead. The middle is the only thing missing and since the backgrounds are the hardest part I think I can keep pretty good time. Hopeing that I don’t get sick again anyway.

So the background list now has:

I added more colors and worked on them but I am afraid to keep working on them. I don’t want to over do the color…

just a plan but should be done pretty quickly…

The cliff is the only one that has lots of work to do but since it is the background with the least amount of detail and complexity it should go by pretty fast.

Getting in a fight with the scanners. Might be some time into the class before i actually get it to work so sorry for the delay.

I have the flight scene minus the second background to scan. Hope to get it all to work.

so until then I shall give you the edited forest.

only the trees are really done but i just want to make sure that they look alright.

these are pretty basic but clouds really aren’t my thing so any input would be lovely.

hand drawing the animation so I probebly won’t post much till i scan things in to harmony.

I have the last scene fleshed out and part of the first scene drawn. So it shouldn’t be ling before i can put something into harmony for you all to see.

I have a “finished” Background for some of the forest scenes. Opinions on it are appriciated.

Judge week…

So I showed people the character designs and the story board that I had come up with so far.

Then I asked them these three questions. Are the character designs cohesive?

Is the story readable and make sense with the actions depicted?

What do you think of the time I have and if I will be able to finish in time?

For the most part the answers that I got for question one was that yes the two character designs were cohesive and seemed to be from the same story. Though they would like to see the male character colored. Question two’s answers were that the story made sense but there were very few story boards and they would like to see more so that they could get a better idea of what was going to happen. They also suggested working on the composition for a few of them.

Question three was a harder one but got some pretty good answers. They said that if I stick to my schedule and don’t procrastinate like I do with everything then i should be able to animate this short section of the much longer story. Lots of don’t procrastinate was the main answer to this one.

Now for the next few weeks what I plan on doing. (It’s been adjusted from the first plan.) Week 1: Key Frame, inbetweening

Week 2: inbetweening

Week 3: inbetweening, (color?)

Week 4: color, sound, and editing

Week 5: Touch up and present.

This is a rough plan but I hope to stick pretty closely to it.

And the reworked story board is this one. I think I might of put in to many boards this time…

Oh and as for the mountain design and timing for the piece. I have the timing roughed out but since i redid the story board i am also reworking the timing and the mountain/forest designs are being done and will be up shortly.

Designer week 2

So I planned out the basic points of the story for the animation. I also decided that Rastus would be in it since it would create more of a challenge for the animation. So here I will post the plan and the rescanned Rastus since the last one was so bad. The mountain BK design is still a work in progress but i am looking at images from the Princess Mononoke movie since a good deal of it takes place in the forest.

I will explane the panels if since they are not completely fleshed out and a little hard to read.

Panel 1: Rastus and Basha flying on patrol duty

Panel 2: Basha notices something in the forest below

Panel 3: They go to check it out

Panel 4: They watch the invading army’s scouting party pass by

Panel 5: They flee to warn teh palace

Panel 6: They take flight and fly off towards the city.

If I get this much done and still have time I might try to get in the city and The two of them warning the palace of the danger but I don’t think that I will get that far.

Ok so here is Rastus. The Mercenary that will most likely make it into the animation but i’m not really sure yet. I also have something for the princess who might not and probebly won’t make it in. I might post her in later though.

no where near as nice of a scan but teh good scanner was in use so this will do for know. I am working on some color tests for them ans will have them up during spring break sometime before we come back so I don’t fall behind.

The monsters will also get some spot light as one of them might get to be seperate from the general blob as it almost spots Basha hiding in the trees. It should be fun to design…

Also for the fun of it i might post in some of the other characters who won’t be in the animation but just so you can see them and tell me if they all seem coherant in designs to eachother.

Designer day 1

so I worked on Basha and have her designed now. I am working on the scenery of the mountain that Basha will be on. The outline of the story is pretty simple but I still need to figure out the details.

Story so far:

Basha is out on patrol (with mercenary guy?) and while flying over the mountains she spots something through the trees. (sitting on mountain side instead?)

She goes over to investigate as quietly as she can. She sees the invading (enemy countries name here) army and watches as they pass. When she is safe to move without being seen she takes to the sky to report to the royal family. She rushed back to the city as fast as her wings will carry her and rushed to the palace. Basha enters while the court is in session and the royal guard surround her. She tells them of what she saw and the princess sands someone to verify and someone else to warn the troops just in case.

I don’t know how much of this story will be made into the animation but it will depend on time.

But here is the redesign for Basha:

Not quit in the Ghibli style but she will be for the animation. It’s just hard for me to design that way the first time around.

Next week will have the Mercenary who will also have a name if i decide to use him. Or even if i don’t but just in case. Also some scenery and city redesigns.

Explorer day 2

So i have decided to go with animating Basha’s descovering the invading armies in the mountains.

I looking intot he books for the artwork of Ghibli studios and so far don’t have one but i do have some of the movies. I will have to do some digging to get the m out but I’m pretty sure that I have Princess monanoke which will be one of my main reference to the works. And if I can find it the other will be Howl’s moving Castle.

I am reworking Basha some since i first drew her but am still working on them.

As for the story I am working out some kinks and will probebly have it for my first designer post.

As for more on Studio Ghibli…..

Studio Ghibli was founded after the success of Nausicaa Valley of the Wind by Hayao Miyazaki, Isoa Takahata, and Toshio Suzuki in 1985. Most of the films produced where directed by Miyasaki and all of the music for the films came from composer Joe Hisaishi. Miyazaki storybouards the movies he directs and for the most part only uses traditional animation. Every now ans them he will use the computor for different elements in the films. The company is well-known for its strict “no-edits” policy in licensing their films abroad. This was a result of the dubbing of Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind when the film was released in the United States as Warriors of the Wind. Koji Hoshino took the presidents seat after Susuki stepped down in 2005 saying he wished to improve the films with his won hands as a producer. One Of studio Ghibli’s head animators, Isoa Takahata, died in 1998 after directing the film Mimi wo Sumaseba.

I plan to look more into Takahata’s and Miyazaki’s other work outside the films they made to see if there is anything more interesting to help me there.
